[Associated with cell survival and expressed in fibroblasts (high), heart, kidney, lung, pancreas, placenta, ovary, small intestine, and spleen by human WISP1 Gene (WISP/CCN/CTGF Family), 367-aa 40-kDa (precursor) and 280-aa isoforms of secreted WNT1 Inducible Signaling Pathway Protein 1 contain 4 conserved Cys-rich domains: a IGFBP domain, a VWFC domain, a TSP type-1 domain, and a CTCK domain. WISP1 up-regulates anti-apoptotic BCL-X(L) protein and attenuates p53-mediated apoptosis induced by DNA damage through activation of AKT kinase. WISP1 binds to, and may prevent the anti-proliferation activity of, decorin and biglycan, small leucine-rich connective tissue extracellular matrix proteoglycans.
