[The HEK receptor tyrosine kinase shows a high degree of homology with EPH and ELK RTKs. The largest subfamily of RTKs, EPH-related receptors have been implicated in mediating developmental events, particularly in the nervous system. EPH-family receptors typically have a single kinase domain and an extracellular region containing a Cys-rich domain and 2 fibronectin type III repeats. EPH receptors are divided into two groups based on their extracellular domain sequences and affinities for ephrin-A (EPHA) and ephrin-B ligands (EPHB). HEK expression appears restricted to lymphoid tumor cell lines, suggesting that HEK may contribute to lymphoid malignancies and normal lymphoid function and differentiation.
