D(1B) Dopamine Receptor

[Dopamine Receptor D5, encoded by the human DRD5 gene, is a G-protein coupled receptor which stimulates adenylyl cyclase. This receptor is expressed in neurons in the limbic regions of the brain. It has a 10-fold higher affinity for dopamine than the D1 subtype. This receptor complexes selectively with GABA-A ligand-gated channel through the direct binding of its carboxy-terminal domain with the second intracellular loop of the GABA-A gamma-2 (short) receptor subunit. This physical association enables mutual inhibitory functional interactions between these receptor systems. Pseudogenes related to this gene reside on chromosomes 1 and 2. Defects in DRD5 are a cause of blepharospasm, a primary focal dystonia affecting the orbicularis oculi muscles, usually beginning in middle age. (From LocusLink, Swiss-Prot, OMIM and NCI) ( NCI )]
