[Ubiquitous nuclear and cytoplasmic RNA Binding Protein EWS belongs to the TET family of RNP proteins, contains an RNA recognition motif and a RANBP2-type zinc finger, and may function as a repressor. EWS contains a transcription activation domain, but the RNA-binding domain can repress trans-activation by the activation domain. The RNA-binding activity is localized to a C-terminal RGG box. EWS binds RNA, calmodulin, and the RNA polymerase II 33 kD polypeptide (RPB3), but not RPB5 or RPB7. EWS interacts with FAK2 and relocates from cytoplasm to ribosomes upon FAK2 activation.
