[Expressed throughout the cell cycle, human ORC6L Gene (ORC6 Family) encodes nuclear 252-aa 28-kDa Origin Recognition Complex Subunit 6, one of 6 conserved subunits of the ORC complex that binds to the consensus ACS of Origins in an ATP-dependent manner, serves as a platform for assembly of additional initiation factors such as CDC6 and MCM proteins, initiates DNA replication, and is essential for viability. Bound to origins throughout the cell cycle, ORC and associated factors modulate local chromatin structure to facilitate replication initiation. While ORC6L and ORC1L loosely associate with the core ORC complex of ORC2L, -3L, -4L and -5L, ORC6 also interacts with other proteins, including a 65-kDa hyperphosphoprotein (G1) dephosphorylated in mitosis.
