[A WHO grade I, generally well circumscribed, slowly growing, often cystic astrocytoma. It is the most common glioma in children. Histologically it is characterized by a biphasic pattern with varying proportion of compacted bipolar cells which may have Rosenthal fibers (tapered corkscrew-shaped, brightly eosinophilic, intracytoplasmic hyaline masses) and loose textured multipolar cells with microcysts and granular bodies.
