A receptor that binds peroxisome proliferators, such as hypolipidemic drugs and fatty acids, PPARG is a key regulator of adipocyte differentiation and glucose homeostasis. Once activated by ligand, PPARG binds to an acyl-CoA oxidase gene promoter element, activates transcription, and controls the peroxisomal fatty acid beta-oxidation pathway.
