[Prominin-1 protein (865 aa, ~97 kDa) is encoded by the KIF4A gene. This protein may play a role in hematopoiesis, but an exact function has yet to be elucidated. The protien has been implicated in tumor pathogenesis and formation in several cancers, including retinoblastoma, hemangioma, and glioblastoma phenotypes.
