[Encoded by human TFIIB Gene, ubiquitous nuclear General Transcription Factor TFIIB plays a central role in assembly of the preinitiation complex, required for transcription initiation by RNA polymerase II. Sequence-specific DNA-binding TFIIB forms the DAB complex with promoter-bound TFIID and TFIIA, bridging TFIID and RNA Polymerase II. TFIIB interacts with the promoter TFIIB-recognition element BRE. BRE suppresses basal transcription by a core promoter, which increases transcription in the presence of an activator that can disrupt promoter-bound TFIIB-BRE. (NCI) ( NCI )]
