952. Anti-MUC-1
[A monoclonal antibody recognizing human mucin, a cell surface antigen encoded by the MUC-1 gene. In normal tissue, mucin exists as heavily glycosylated form, while tumor-associated mucin molecules are underglycosylated. Underglycosylation exposes the normally cryptic tandem peptide repeats in cancer-associated mucin, thereby allows antigen-antibody interaction with MUC-1 antibody. As a result, the MUC-1 antibody inhibits the initiation of the immunosuppressive cascade triggered by mucin, including production and secretion of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), followed by VEGF induction and suppression of natural killer cell, lymphokine-activated killer cell and cytotoxic T cell activity. 904. Anthrax Toxin Mechanism of Action
[One of the key causes of anthrax virulence is the action of three specific factors produced by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. Even with successful antibiotic treatment, anthrax toxins can remain in the circulation and cause lethality. The toxins produced by anthrax bacteria are lethal factor (LF), protective antigen (PA) and edema factor (EF). The entry of toxin into cells begins with the recognition of a cellular receptor in the plasma membrane by PA. Proteolytic cleavage of cell-bound PA creates a smaller fragment that then multimerizes into a pore-like structure in the plasma membrane. The LF and EF proteins bind to the PA pre-pore, followed by internalization of the entire structure through receptor-mediated endocytosis. In the endosomal compartment, the acidic pH causes a conformational change that inserts PA fragments and releases LF and EF into the cytoplasm. In the cytoplasm, LF acts as a protease that cleaves MAP kinase kinase (MAPKK 1 and MAPKK 2), inhibiting pathways that rely on this kinase family and causing cell death. Edema factor is an adenylate cyclase that inhibits the immune response, including phagocytosis by macrophages. (BioCarta) ( NCI )] (UMLS (NCI) C1510921) Anthrax Toxin Pathway;

943. Anti-human Chorionic Gonadotropin Vaccine
[A synthetic peptide vaccine containing an epitope of the human chorionic gonadotropin beta-subunit with potential antineoplastic activity. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hGC), a hetrodimeric alpha/beta glycoprotein, is secreted by trophoblastic cells during normal gestation and is also an oncofetal tumor antigen. Elevated serum levels of free beta-hCG are seen with trophoblastic and germ cell tumors as well as with some solid tumors such as breast, prostate, colon, pancreatic, renal and lung cancer. The hCG hormone may play a role in tumor progression by functioning as a transforming growth factor, an inducer of metastasis, and as an angiogenesis factor. Vaccination with anti-hCG beta-subunit vaccine may elicit both a humoral and a cellular immune response against hCG-expressing tumor cells, resulting in decreased tumor cell growth. Anti-hCG vaccines have previously been evaluated as anti-fertility or alternative contraceptive treatments. ( NCI )] (UMLS (NCI) C0879548) =Pharmacologic Substance; Biologically Active Substance

945. Anti-Idiotype Specified Monoclonal Antibody
[A synthetic antibody produced by a genetically homogenous population of hybrid cells (hybridoma) against determinant idiotypes (Id) which usually mimic human epitopes. Anti-Id vaccines may be effective in the treatment of B-cell lymphomas, resulting in tumor regression. Anti-idiotype vaccine therapy is less likely to induce autoimmunity if the target antigen is not normally expressed on normal tissues. Monoclonal antibodies have become powerful tools for tumor targeting, recognizing different protein markers on certain cancer cells and may be used alone or as delivery agents for drugs, toxins or radioactive material targeted to tumors. (NCI04) ( NCI )] (UMLS (NCI) C1510927) =Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein; Immunologic Factor ;

946. anti-idiotype vaccine
[A vaccine made of antibodies that see other antibodies as the antigen and bind to it. Anti-idiotype vaccines can stimulate the body to produce antibodies against tumor cells. ( NCI )] (UMLS (NCI) C1510928) =Pharmacologic Substance; Immunologic Factor ;
996. Antibiotic Therapy
[Treat bacterial infections with antibiotics ( NCI )] (UMLS (NCI) C0338237) =Therapeutic or Preventive Procedure
947. Anti-idiotypic Monoclonal Antibody BEC2
[A murine anti-idiotypic monoclonal antibody (anti-Id MoAb) that directed against an idiotype mimicking a disialoganglioside GD3. GD3 represents a major surface marker on most human melanoma cells. Due to poor immunogenicity of GD3, anti-Id MoAb BEC2 (Ab2) was raised against a mouse anti-GD3 MoAb, R24 (Ab1). This anti-Id MoAb was shown to be functionally mimicking GD3 in stimulating immune response to produce Ab3 that maybe used in combination with other adjuvants for treatment of melanomas. ( NCI )] (UMLS (NCI) C0281550) =Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein; Pharmacologic Substance; Immunologic Factor

950. Anti-MART-1 TCR Retroviral Vector-Transduced Autologous PBL
[Human peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) isolated from a melanoma patient and were engineered to react with the melanoma antigen MART-1 (Melanoma Antigen Recognized by T cells, also called Melan-A). These PBLs are transfected with a retroviral vector encoding anti-MART-1 specific T-cell receptors, grown in culture, and then transferred back to the patient. These genetically modified PBL may recognize and halt the growth of MART-1-expressing melanoma cells.
