CAV2

[Caveolin 2, encoded by the CAV2 gene, is a scaffolding protein and a major component of the inner surface of caveolae (small invaginations of the plasma membrane). CAV2 is involved in essential cellular functions, including signal transduction, lipid metabolism, cellular growth control and apoptosis. CAV1 and CAV2 form Caveolin, a stable hetero-oligomeric complex important in the formation and maintenance of caveolae. CAV2 may function as an accessory protein in conjunction with CAV1. CAV2 interacts directly with G-protein alpha subunits and can functionally regulate their activity. By using alternative initiation codons in the same reading frame, two isoforms (alpha and beta) are encoded by a single transcript from this gene. (From LocusLink and NCI) ( NCI )]
