[Gastric carcinoma cells that oversecrete cathepsins B and L have a high invasive and metastatic potential. Tumors invading the muscularis propria showed significantly higher cathepsin B and L expression than those that invaded only the submucosal layer. Tumors with lymphatic invasion showed higher cathepsin B expression, whereas tumors with venous invasion showed higher cathepsin L expression. (from Cancer 2000;89:482-487 via Medscape) ( NCI )]
