Sharing structural and functional similarities, highly conserved TLRs recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns expressed on infectious agents and mediate cytokine production necessary for effective immunity. Bound extracellularly to TLR2, TLR6 mediates cellular response to fungi and bacterial lipoproteins MALP-2, STF, PSM, and OspA-L.
