Rapidly phosphorylated and activated in response to DNA damage and replication block stress signal transduction, CHEK2 phosphorylates and inhibits CDC25C phosphatase; stabilizes p53 protein leading to G1 cell cycle arrest and preventing mitosis; and phosphorylates BRCA1 allowing survival after DNA damage.
